Prayer needed

I am so wanting to get back to pondering and photographs and gardening and... well, you get it.

Instead physically I have been getting worse instead of better.  We now realize this cold I have is the same thing Christopher was suffering from during finals week.  He ended up having to go on antibiotics to get over it and that is the last thing I want to do, after being on them so often this winter.  (I keep telling him that I now know just what he meant when he kept saying he was miserable.)  :)

Since I'm still dealing with the congestion and being unable to breath through my nose, I'm also still having trouble sleeping at night... and I have tried EVERYTHING I know to take or do to get over this (knowing there are some things one cannot take if diabetic or taking medication for thyroid disease).

ADDED:  Oh, did I mention I've started coughing so much I can't keep food down?  Since we are all friends here, I may as well include that bit of trivia which you probably could have done without.  But it may be helpful to be prayed over.

Now... to stop whining and send out a thank you to God (Who definitely ordained the events leading up to this).  Christopher was suppose to have a nonpaid research assistantship this summer but the professor he was to work with has been busy traveling and didn't have time to bring in new students right now.

At the end of a long e-mail from one of his professors last week, there was a mention of another professor needing a science student to help design an APP for the iPhone.  He just had the basic classes for this last semester.  He set up an interview and was immediately hired... and it pays!!!  He will be working full time this summer along with taking one summer school class and there is a chance he could continue working part-time during the school year.

There is more to the story as to how he has just the classes and background for this work (that God ordained stuff again) but it is for another story... or as Alton says on Good Eats, "that's another episode".

Thank you for your prayers that I will get over this and breath again (not to mention get a good night's sleep).

My prayers out to you that God would give you strength and heal you in His time. God bless, and if I lived close I would be dropping by with a pot of homemade chicken noodle soup.

Congratulations to Chris. and get well soon.
Have you tried running the shower till the bathroom is all steamy and sitting there awhile? Sometimes helped when I was choked up with asthma and a bad cold.

I had two back to back perscriptions of antibiotic to clear up my chest infection, well worth it. I wonder if you still need some. I went to the doctor for something else though, funnily enough I still have after all that, a throat thing of some sort, I didn't want bad breath for a dentist appointment I had. Was so glad I was given those antibiotics. They also gave me a flu shot (I am 46) and talked about asthma, so now I am going to take preventer even though I didn't want to to get me through winter and the flu shot so I am not put in the position of having something happen with my chest and not being able to breathe.

I have more energy now, I didn't realise how little I had, having said that I am not bouncing up and down.

Praying right now, Brenda!

Awesome about Christopher's job - God is so good!

I am praying for you Brenda....You may have a double whammy if you are sick but also have allergies. The cottonwood and the pine pollen are very bothersome right now, and even with allergy meds I sometimes find myself coughing and coughing because of the volume of post nasal drip...Well, this too shall pass. I would probably go see a doctor soon, even though you don't want to use antibiotics. But I'm praying for you, and I know many many others are too....That's great news about Christopher's job! Great experience for him. And money is good too!

Hello from Zurich,

I return to your blog again and again because I am drawn to your honesty, words of encouragement and your faith that underscores it all.

My heart goes out to you as you suffer with this cold. I had a similar experience in April, and I know a bit of what you are feeling. I'm adding my prayers to all the others. Are you getting enough moisture? Perhaps breathing in steam (much like a facial, with a bowl of herb-infused steaming water and a towel over your head) might be of help? It's worth a try.

God bless -

Oh, dear Brenda. You have had so much illness! You will definitely be in my prayers. My heart goes out to you as I know how hard it is when you long to do things but physically, your body won't allow you to do so.

Rest, take care of yourself, and definitely go to the doctor if you find yourself needing to. In the meantime, we will pray to the Great Physician!

Such wonderful news about your son. God truly is good and puts all things together for our good and His glory. Praise God!

God bless you - Julie

Hi Brenda,
Just wondering if you have tried inhaling eucalyptus oil in boiling water to relieve the blocked nose. also if you rub vick's vapour rub into feet and put socks on when you go to bed, this helps too.
also have you tried cutting an onion in half and leaving it near to where you sleep, it absorbs germs.
these things really work so I hope you will try them. good luck. Ann

Brenda,

Please go to the doctor before it turns into something worse. You've been sick for a while now. I'm not fond of antibiotics myself but sometimes they are the only things that will help.

You're in my prayers.

Yay for Christopher getting a paid postition - that's fabulous news!

As one who has had pneumonia, Whooping cough, bronchitis, pleurisy, and has had to be put on steroids due to allergy coughs--and has coughed hard enough to crack a rib...

Those little green onions and also garlic--they must be raw--can help your lungs more than many cough meds. NEVER eat them on an empty stomach--it can make you vomit. The same oils that cause halitosis soothes the lungs and allows you to sleep.

I ate a green onion sandwich at bed time and then would sit in the Lazy Boy until I got sleepy. That was the only thing that got me to sleep when I had whooping cough.

Have you tried eucalyptus oil? I fill a crockpot with hot water and sprinkle drops of the oil over the water. Leaving the lid off, I turn the pot on high and let the steam fill the room. Eucalyptus has a slight antibiotic-type of effect and can help fight those nasty sinus problems. Be sure to clean the pot well before cooking food in it.

Also, to clear the sinuses, soak your feet in as hot of water as you can stand. Some folks follow up with a menthol rub (Mentholatum or Vicks)--and then put on warm socks. I hate the menthol rub and refuse to do it. LOL!

Hm...a thought has been lost. I'm sure there was another thing I was going to suggest. Oh well.

Maybe you have tried these already. Just thought I'd pass on a little of what works for me.

Jean (who is enjoying a few blogs for a change today!)

I'll be praying for your healing - I'm sorry you've been sick for so long! I know how hard it is to be parting ways with your stomach contents, but do keep well hydrated! If I live close, I'd be bringing over some tea and muffins!
I'm so glad about Christopher's summer job - it sounds fun and it pays! Another example of how God's timing is perfect - we often think of Him as working too slowly, but He is never late!

Sweet blessings from heaven concerning your son's summer job. He meets every need according to His plan. Wow!

Praying for you, dear friend. Sounds like the respiratory virus both Lizzie and I had not too long ago - horrid doesn't describe. Hers turned into an infection..took 2 months to rid. I suffered allergies and asthma as well as the virus - went on a strong duty of Prednisone to help clear up. Whew. Now I'm just dealing with allergies and asthma. sigh.

in Him,

You need to go to see the doctor. You would have taken your son or your husband to the doctor if they were this sick for so long.

I've had coughs so bad that I would gag at the end. Perhaps you need antibiotics even if you hate them.....I'll be praying that this goes away on it's own, but don't wait too long before seeing a Dr.

Vee said...

Oh no. It's come to that (prayer). ;D You know that I am always praying whenever I visit you and so will pray that the Lord will deliver you from having to take the antibiotics. Just follow His lead in all things...

Wonderful news about Christopher's summer job! I can tell that the Lord was working things out for him.

My thoughts and prayers are certainly with you as you get through this illness. Not that it's much consolation, but you know what they say.... "This too, shall pass". And when it does, you can get back to gardening and taking pictures and enjoying a nice summer.

God bless.

That kind of coughing leading to throwing up is characteristic of bronchitis or even pneumonia. It would be wise to see a doctor as soon as possible. It would seem what was originally a virus has gone into a secondary bacterial infection.
