The first harvest of the season

The promise of another day of record breaking heat lured me to the garden early this morning.

I harvested lettuce and kale...

and peonies.  :)

I love this basket, an old Longaberger found at Goodwill for just a few dollars.  Since it had been well used and well loved, it was the same price as the regular baskets (but just perfect for gardening and mornings at the farmer's market)... very sturdy.

Brenda, your photos of your first harvest this season are a great inspiration to me. Your peonies are so gorgeous, I would love to plant one. And yummy kale and lettuce. I did plant rainbow chard but no heat wave here, which so many veggies love, not chard, but zucchini and tomatoes for sure.

What a lovely haul from the garden! We have rain, yet again! I am wondering if I will get to plant anything more than POTATOES!

Enjoy your salat, as Grandma said.

Our first harvest was rhubarb for a pie for my husband just before I left him for a week to be with mom over Mother's Day. He loved it!

What an amazing basket - and your harvest looks pretty good too! I found a Longaberger at the Goodwill several years ago too--it was $.50! But it was a small button basket, not a BIG one like yours! lol Hope you're feeling better and the baby arrives safely. My daughter is expecting a new daughter in July!

How beautiful they are!!It is winter in Australia, so I haven't seen many flowers around.

To me, there's nothing more lovely than peonies.....the beauty and the smell. I wonder if there is a peony perfume?
