Sights of Christmas - Part 2

No updates on my brother-in-law. I doubt anything will be done today or tomorrow (he is still on life support) since they are waiting for their youngest daughter to arrive from Georgia. I will be going to the hospital later today to spend time with Bonnie.

I love it that you all like my tree on the porch. It was originally a Goodwill tree that I paid just a few dollars for but I didn't want to throw it away. So... I thought of that corner of the porch where the garage meets the house... behind the old rocking chair.

There is no glitz or glamour on the porch since we live at the edge of a forest. I walked to the car yesterday morning while it was still dark and the "hoot" of an owl echoing from the forest was the only sound. For some reason, owls make me think of Pooh and the Thousand Acre Woods. :)

I sliced and dried only two oranges for the outside tree. I already had plenty of old cinnamon and applesauce to make the stars. If you do a web search of "cinnamon ornaments or cinnamon-applesauce ornaments" you will find a lot of recipes and good tips on making them.

Here are a few more Christmas decorations...

This bear stays out all year but I gave her a Christmas message. Some years she goes on top of the tree. :)

I have an aversion to creches with a blond Jesus. However, it was $6.95 at the thrift store... so I got over it. I loved everything else about it.

This long strand of poinsettias was really, really cheap originally (plastic with silk flowers) and I found it on clearance last year for a quarter. However, it looks "uptown" when wound around the chandelier.

I have three tree angels I rotate. This angel on top of the tree is one I made in the 1990s. Can we say... country? Last year when I draped the gold colored beads on the tree, I set my Victorian girlie-girlie angel with gold lame' wings on the tree.

Not exactly Biblical versions of angels but what do we want... good theology or cute? Don't answer that son-in-law of mine. :)

I usually fill a silver bowl with beautiful Christmas bulbs but I didn't unpack those this year. So... the autumnal apple centerpiece became the Christmas centerpiece. Hey, they're red aren't they? Don't they look real?

With all the red accessories in my kitchen, all I had to do was throw in a few baubles and we had... Christmas glitz and glitter.

ANSWER: The laptop was on a chair in yesterday's picture. It wasn't until I had published the post yesterday that I noticed it there. :)

With a brown Sharpie marker, Jesus can get dark brown hair in a hurry - no more silly blond hair for the Supreme Jewish God/Man.

Dear Brenda
thank you for suggesting to do a web search on cinnamon ornaments! As I didn't know how they are called, I didn't know where to begin... I read the other comments on Part 1 - this porch tree seems to be the favourite! I like your apple centerpiece also. Your home is truly beautiful! Thanks for your answer!
I am sorry you and your sister have to go through such sad times right befor christmas. Blessings and best wishes to all of you from Germany! Martina

Thought of you while decorating our tree last night as I said to the children, "hang the silver balls back into the tree instead of on the edge." Thanks for that great tip!

Girl, slap some paint on the Jesus' head! LOL Now I've got to go check out my own nativity that I've had for 25 years to see what color baby Jesus' hair is!

How very pretty! I agree; paint Jesus' hair to suit you! Black, I think, don't you? :)

Would you come decorate my house? I am just not in the mood...

I loved this little line tucked in...

"we live at the edge of a forest".

I can see that. Hear it.

(Came over through Nancy, who celebrated you in the 12 Day Celebration. :)
