Over the river and through the woods...

The roads were finally clear enough by this afternoon that I didn't mind getting out and about.  The next time the meteorologist says we're having an inch or so of snow, I will be skeptical.  Which, come to think of it, is in a couple of days.  If one doesn't care about slipping and sliding on the roads... the snow is lovely.

Yes... the barn in the header belongs to my neighbor.  There was only a couple inches of snow on the ground when I walked out to the county road and took this picture but it was enough to show off that red barn.  A fresh coat of red was painted on it this past year and it really stands out in winter now.  I have always loved red barns and consider it a blessing to view it each day.

Speaking of the color red, there is a family of cardinals living in the large bush directly in my line of sight through the kitchen window.  They have been there every winter and are breathtakingly beautiful in the snow.  I want to get a picture of them but they are shy... and fast!

If you happen to peruse the list of books I am reading (located on the sidebar), you will know that I have overdone it a bit.  I have never wanted to speed read as I enjoy the process of reading.  I have, however, wished I could open a book and absorb the words.  Especially when I have a stack of reading material waiting on the coffeetable.

However, first there are household duties which must be accomplished and not the least of these is the "packing of Christmas", which has gone no further than Christmas oriented objects being placed on every bit of flat surface the dining room table allows.  This year I must wait until my husband can pull the Rubbermaid containers off the shelf as they are behind Christopher's punching bag (don't ask) which weighs at least one ton.

So I find myself in limbo between that which I want to do and that which must be done... all because of a punching bag in my garage.  Mothers of sons will understand, I am certain.

I would guess you shouldn't think about packing up Christmas until those bins are out. In the meantime do whatever you want. This is the in between week full of ponderings and resting.

As a mother with a son who has 500 pounds of weights right under the attic stairs, I understand. And, for this reason, I vote that you enjoy your books and let the cleaning wait!

Just visiting Manuela at The Pleasures of Homemaking where she is eager to do the very same things. I don't know if a punching bag is preventing her, though. Thankfully, I have successfully avoided the urge to pack away the Christmas touches.

With the red barn and the cardinals, you'll have little touches of Christmas decorations all winter. How lovely!

BTW, meterologists are not to be trusted under any circumstances. ;D

I love cardinals. While they don't find a home in my location, I remember them as a child while growing up in Northern Illinois. My favorite is the female - golden splendor is her color. I've used a picture of one as my header. :o)

After I went through all the trouble of buying and trimming a tree, not to mention all the other Christmas decorations around the house - it's not coming down until the weekend after I go back to work - I go back January 4th and so the following weekend it will come down. By then the tree will be ready to put in the backyard and slather peanut butter on and attach bird food to. Last year's tree is just a trunk - but it's holding up my bougainvillea bushes from lunging forward. Our Christmas trees last forever here....

Yes, I understand all about sons and punching bags. lol Been there and done that. I think they do weigh a ton! ;)

Glad the snow is subsiding and that you were able to get out.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

God bless you - Julie

Vee is too funny! No I don't have a punching bag keeping me from taking down Christmas. More like a husband and daughter who want it up until New Year's Day. But I am putting some things away because I just am tired of all the decorations and clutter.

I love the red barn! Your header looks great. I like how you're always changing it.

I can relate to your frustrations at having everything ready to go back where it belongs and having to look at the clutter while you wait. I'm at the mercy of my family; because of my lame back, I can't lift or carry anything heavier than a couple of pounds. We decided we were enjoying the cozy atmosphere the decorations provide so much that we're leaving them up until the second week of January. Have a blessed day and enjoy your cardinal friends!

The header picture is wonderful. IMO, a barn must be painted red or not painted at all. :)

Back up the car, hook up the chain, and pull that thing out into the driveway. That should have the boy in motion. I've done plentya brilliant things like that.
And tell him "Happy New Year."
