A quick update

The drive to the Veteran's Hospital was beautiful today. We are fully in autumn now... the aroma in the air on the way to the mailbox is now musty (as in fallen leaves) and the trees are just beginning to show pale green, butter yellow, and a touch of red here and there.

We took the scenic route to the hospital and was rewarded by beautiful forests, corn all ready for harvest, and the view of the wind farms which are now springing up throughout the Midwest. You begin to see the huge windmills from miles and miles away.

Hubby remarked that some of the farmers were late taking in their corn. I told him the answer was in two words... um... field corn... which dries in the field before heading for storage. Sigh, city boys.

He did redeem himself by saying perhaps it was seed corn where the ever prevalent agricultural research signs were at the end of rows. I gave him a "get out of jail" card for quick thinking. :)

Although we were on the road as the sun was rising above the horizon and left the hospital around 1:00, his actual test went quickly. He was under a mild anesthetic throughout the procedure. He received a clean bill of health from the doctor and a reminder to come back again in seven years. I'll put it on my calendar.

Sasha is getting weaker but doesn't appear to be in any pain. She is receiving a lot of love. We hope she goes quietly in her sleep soon so we don't have to go through having another cat put to sleep.

I can't imagine life with neither of our kitties. My husband has been telling her she is free to go and be with her sister (which may make her want to stay here as Storm could be rather cranky). I tell her I can't imagine life without her.

Added Note: Sasha is 18 1/2 years old. Stephanie brought home the two tiny kitties when they were all fur with paws and ears. Christopher was not even two, yet. We have teased her about living longer than her sister just so she could experience what it is like to be queen for awhile. :)

Oh Brenda, you are in my thoughts as sweet Sasha is ailing. What a tribute to your good care is her long life. I will pray that she goes as you wish. How many times I have prayed that same prayer!
I'm glad your hubby got a good report.
Hugs,
Lallee

I am sorry to hear about your cat being ill. Having pets is like having children. You grow to love them so much.

i would love to drive by one of those wind farms some day. i find them fascinating but have never seen one in person.

my hubbie was not lucky enough to grow up in the country either. it is funny sometimes the things he doesn't get or understand that i just take for granted. i wouldn't trade my country upbringing for anything!!

oh, brenda, i am thinking of you as you go through this time with sasha. my last days with presley were so bittersweet. relish every second of this time with her.

I was always a dog person but when we were given a cat that had no home if we didn't take it we did. Now I can say I am a cat and a dog person. We have had several cats since. Each very different but oh so loving and dear to us. My heart aches for you. You love your animals so much you wish they would always be there. I pray your pray for Sasha happens. I know that is what you want but are also dreading the end when it happens too. Wish we all could do more for yu Brenda. Jody

Awww...I know how important our pets are to us. I was just thinking about that this morning when my little cat Trinket was being her sweet little pesty self!

We have a dog who is getting older and I have been warning my children about that fact.
I will be thinking about you and your kitty!

My cat lived to be 19 years old. Just a few weeks ago we had to put my son's dog to sleep. It was so hard. She left us way to soon; as she was only 7 1/2 years old. I know in dog years she would have been middle age; still way to soon!

Brenda, I am so sorry about Sasha. Our pets become a part of our family and it hurts to see them sick. She sure has had a long life, though, and I am sure a good one. Love your picture in your header. I am so ready for Fall. We are finally getting some rain and it is cooler.

I envy your Autumn drive as it is in the 80's and only green leaves on these trees in Ga right now. I'm planning a trip to Panera for a good cup of coffee and bagel or muffin for the first nice cool day we get here , or for the first day of fall which ever comes first. I'm diabetic too, restricting baked good calories as I'm an addict when it comes to that--LOVE baked goods but love me being healthy more. So that will be my treat. Will think of you.

I'm praying for you and family and Sasha. I adopted a kitten back when I moved alone in to my first ever apt during college at age 19. Not sure who was more scared at that beginning, and Randy and I had quite a time together through the years. I cried, loved, snuggled with her for 19 years. She saw me through graduating college, moving to Atlanta for my 1st job, my single years and travels, and at the very end of her life- my first years of marriage with my husband. And the adoption of not one , but two DOGS!! I said the same thing as your husband, that she was free to go and encouraged her to let go . She had a stubborn streak. She had loved me and been my best friend for a long time and her body was weary . Eventually , we did have to put her down , but I was blessed with a friend who worked for a vet and came to the house. I've lost my mother , mother in law, and a precious dog since Randy's death. I mourn them all. I'm so greatful for our time together and for memories. With no children , my animals are my only kids. I cherish my two dogs and my mellow yellow cat "Yella Kitty". Will keep you all in my prayers.
