A new year

I love January 1st... I can honestly say I haven't gained too much weight this year, or swiped too many bites of chocolate, or had too much caffeine... no, I've been a good girl this year. All um... 16+ hours of it already.

I don't make New Year's resolutions because I don't keep New Year's resolutions. They tend to have been forgotten by the end of January. I do, however, spend a few days at the beginning of the year in the Word, in prayer... pondering, asking, questioning, listening for wisdom... my annual mid-course correction time.

For by the end of the fourth season, I often find myself off course and in desperate need of Guidance. While I enjoyed the Christmas season very much, I could oh so tell I was wavering... tossing to and fro in life's ocean. There was the presence of tension in the background of my life, an unsettled soul... and the reason escaped me.

It's not just me. I was taking the ornaments from the Christmas tree today (the last post-Christmas project as I loved the way the tree looked this year) and chatting with Christopher at the same time. I reminded him he must not continue to let everything come in the way of spending time in the Word and asking for guidance. For this is the time of life he is making the "big" decisions, those that affect... everything.

I felt a bit hypocritical as I have done the same thing, let the non-essentials of life crowd out that which should be the most important. I plan to spend time over the next week writing out quick notes and then permanently placing them in my scrapbook journal. Hopefully, finding ways to make those course corrections.

I have a feeling 2009 is going to be a year in which we all need to have our lives fully anchored. There are areas in need of correcting. So far all I know is that I want to return to a regular reading program. Eating more fresh fruit and veggies is a no brainer. I must remember to... hope.

I'm planning on getting away at a coffee shop in the morning (thus, the picture above... although quite a different climate as that shown). I'll put pen to paper and scribble ideas as they come, scribbles which only I can read. I (God willing) will find some guidance while sipping coffee and nibbling a scone... coffee and quiet times are quite the combination which often bring Wisdom.

Hello Brenda,

Happy New Year to you and yours. I really enjoyed your post today and the very sound advise to firstly seek the Lord's guidance before we let other worldly things crowd our minds. That coffee and scone sounds so good and I hope your pen flows smoothly as you contemplate life.

Blessings Gail

And I'll be here ready to read whatever wisdom you're sharing. You are not alone in thinking that 2009 is not going to be the easiest year that ever was.

Brenda,

May this year bring you more wonderful moments than sorrowful ones!

The reminder to not let everday essentials squeeze out my quiet time with the Lord, praying, reading and listening for His still small voice was excellent :o)

Blessings to you and yours!

Happy New Year, Brenda!

I'm with you as far as not making resolutions...I have had enough years of doing so to know I won't keep them ! :( However, this year, the desire of my heart (and my husband's) is to draw closer to the Lord and pray daily that he will use us to reach others for Him. Also, daily prayers that our children will soon fully surrender to His will and ways for their lives.

I'm not making resolutions as much as I'm setting goals.

It is so important to stay grounded in the Word and I am continually amazed as how easy it is to neglect that habit.

Thanks for the good reminder. Yes, hard times are ahead, but He has promised to never leave us or forsake us.

Happy New Year, Brenda and thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!

Brenda --

Thank you for your faithful messages of your heart. Thank you for continually turning your heart towards the Lord. Thank you for sharing your burdens. It only makes you closer, as my sister in the Lord. Thank you for being grateful to Him, even for the pain and heartaches of loss.

Where would we be without the consolation of His presence, His love, and His faithfulness in our lives? You continue to delight my heart, Brenda. Thank you for taking the time to write your thoughts.

Lovingly..........Shari

Happy New Year, Brenda. I love the picture at the top of your blog. I, too, am ready for Spring after Christmas, and I, too, do not bother to make New Year's resolutions because I simply break them.

"A course correction at the end of the fourth season."

A wise woman you are, Brenda ... I think I'll follow suit and spend some time considering where I have drifted and which ropes need to be tightened and which need to be cut free. It's so important, isn't it? To have moments of deep inspection and then take determined purposeful action. May it all be to God's honor, and may the new course course corrections lead is more directly to HIS kingdom.

I pray that God will bless you this year, my blogging friend ... and that you will hold close to Him, because His is the source of our safety, our provisions, and our salvation!

Happy New Year!

I've not really been into resolutions, but, funny enough, decided to make some goals this year -- reminders, really, of what I'm always aiming for anyway. We'll see how it goes....

I've got to take the tree down tomorrow, now that our Couples' Christmas Party is over! Then it will feel a bit like a "fresh start."

Happy New YEar!

What a nice post. Things are changing in my life and I enjoy knowing that there are places I can go to get a kind word and a bit of good advice. I do so enjoy your posts.

By the way, since you do so much for your readers I thought I would try and bring a smile to your face. Some say awards mean little, but when they come from the heart, hopefully they mean more. I recently accepted a Premio Dardos Award from Jane Kennedy Sutton (http://janekennedysutton.blogspot.com/). I would like to offer this award to you.

You can find out more on my blog at http://karensyed.blogspot.com

Happy new year.
