Need some down time and SOON

Sigh, I love to be at home in cold and snowy weather. I like to slowly sip my morning coffee while having a lingering quiet time, check out Fox Business, set the breakfast dishes to soak, and think about what I need to do for the day's meals and any baking that is to be started. Instead, the past few days have found me running errands and going to appointments.

Thankfully I didn't have far to go on the days the roads were icy. Christopher had another car run into him while waiting at a light yesterday. He was in the Buick so the only harm to him was hitting his head on the steering wheel and the car has only minor damage. The other guy's car was smashed and for some reason, he was arrested. Christopher handled it so well, the only reminder I had to give him when he called was that all the info he needed for the police was in an envelope in the glove compartment.

I remember when Stephanie had her first accident. Although she had no cell phone, she did call to let me know about it. I figured if they are the people doing the calling... all is well.

We're having to "duck walk" down the gravel lane to get our newspaper and the mail. Gravel has a way of gripping onto frozen surfaces and let's just say there have been times we've had weeks of duck walking. :)

While I don't like driving or walking on ice, I'm quite fond of cold weather. I love to throw a blanket around me when I get a chance to stop and read or watch a DVD (or just sit and ponder), it is like being in my own little cocoon all warm and cozy. I know I was meant to hibernate.

The house is all decorated. I'll chat more about that later. Tomorrow I have a doctor's appointment but I'm hoping tomorrow afternoon to start making some Christmas goodies that I'm giving as gifts this year. I'll share more about that soon, too.

As for now, I need to wash the dishes that are soaking (for their seems to always be dishes either in the process of cooking, soaking, or drying). Then I believe a mug of sugar free Swiss Miss sounds like a very good idea.

I have to tell you something funny. I have spent most of my adult life in Florida, where not only is there no snow...there's no seasons except hot and hotter. Well about 8 years ago, we moved to the northwest, where we DO have both snow and seasons. I was so anxious for snow. I had actually begged my husband to take me to North Dakota some January, just so I could experience a blizzard. Well, last winter did me in. We had more snow than we've had in the 8 years that we've lived here, more snow than there's been in years. And I'm hoping for NO snow this year. Or better yet, a return to the sunny south where we get no snow. I will enjoy snowstorms vicariously through Laura Ingalls Wilder's The Long Winter, which I read every couple of winters.

I definitely don't like driving on icy roads, although I don't have to go out much...usually just to church on Sundays and then one other day during the week.

After all those years in Florida, I thrive on green...and in the winter the trees are barren and the grass is brown. So for those reasons I'm NOT a winter person!

Blessings,
Patti

Thank the Lord Christopher is okay. It sounds like he handled it very well. From what you have said about both of your children I picture them as mature. I am so much like you about loving to be inside in the cold weather and be able to bundle up and be cozy. I can't imagine me on ice at this age. I have enough of a challenge walking on regular dry ground. I need to get me some diet hot chocolate. Take care.

Glad that Christopher is OK and handled dealing with the police just fine :o)

I, too, am a cozy indoors person when it's icy outside and road conditions are poor!

I love going for a walk when we're getting a *soft, fluffy, snowfall* ~ it's so quiet and peaceful that I can almost *hear* the snowflakes falling through the air.

A good book, a hot cup of tea or hot chocolate and a warm blanket all add up to a perfect winter afternoon :o)

Blessings!

Wow, it sounds really cold there! We've been having crazy weather here, my lilacs think it Spring and they have started to bloom! Now that's even crazy for California! They don't usually bloom until March!

So glad that Christopher is okay...it doesn't sound like it was much fun. Only my daughter has ever had a fender bender and I well remember how anxious I was about it.

Brenda, where did your picture go with you sipping a cup of tea? I miss that picture! How will I know for sure that I'm in the right place? :D

Oh phew! I found you...just further down the page. I feel better now.

Hi Brenda,
We are just teaching our first young driver. It is with nerves that I sit in the passenger seat. I hope that Mikey turns out to be as competent in the event of an accident as Christopher was.

It is good that he was not truly hurt.

I hope you do get some down time. It is a great time for it.

I'm so glad that your son wasn't injured! I hope that your visit with the Dr. goes well...I can't wait to hear more of your baking plans! :)

I'm so glad that your son is ok. My son was in an accident not too long ago, and I remember thinking that it only takes a moment, and your whole life changes. We should treasure each and every moment with those we love.
