He prepares a table before me

I'm using my blog to show the New England contingent our Thanksgiving festivities. As I LOVE to be nosey and see what other people do, I'm sure most of you won't mind.

It was the above verse from Psalms 23 that I thought of as I called the guys to the dinner table today. I had overheard Christopher tell a friend that we wouldn't have as much this year for Thanksgiving as we usually did.

I smiled as he said that for I knew something he didn't know... God's provision... He literally did prepare a table for us.

Imagine their surprise when they saw this. :)

Below is my second attempt at making a pumpkin pie. I'll tell you later how this will be the year of "Mom's spacing it" while baking.

It is truly funny and I must say the second time was a charm and produced a better looking pie (and definitely the best TASTING).

Hubby teased me about the "falling leaves" on the pumpkin pie. He thought it a very "Martha" thing to do. I asked him where he thought I got the idea! I had extra pie crust and cute little autumn cookie cutters and the rest is history.

Those soup bowls were purchased on clearance at Tuesday Morning last year (if I remember, for sixty cents each... they had been very expensive). I used them for the dessert.

They looked good with my Goodwill transfer ware dishes (LOVE these dishes, will be on the lookout for more transfer ware at thrift stores). The silverware is silver plated, got the entire set at a garage sale over a year ago now. It belonged to the woman's mother but she didn't want to have to mess with it, anymore. Sigh...

Yes, those are paper napkins. I always use cloth napkins but I just loved those turkey paper napkins so I decided to use them this year.

Hubby helped with the dishes but I'm worn out. The guys are watching some football Top Ten shows right now so I'm going to brew myself a cup of tea and read. After two days of cooking (and two attempts at pumpkin pie... sheesh), it is time to rest.

I'm glad I went to that much trouble, especially as the Lord made such a lovely provision. Jean and I have talked a great deal about the need for presenting just as beautiful a table for two or three as if we were having a crowd over for a Holiday.

(That is Jean, my sister who lives in Tampa... Jean who comments, I hope you made yourself a pretty meal even though you were alone.)

Tomorrow... Christmas decorating! Today... rest and leftovers.

By the way, the tablecloth didn't look that wrinkled in person. :)

I am so happy to see you enjoying your dinner today. Your health has recovered in time for the provision to be used. I know we will all be happy when you can qualify for your medical coverage. Your table is beautiful! Isen't it fun bringing together this and that and that and this that God has provided for us and being able to use it like that! That you share it with us in turn gives us ideas...and the giving just continues like that on and on! I too am very tired from all the cooking and such but the warm feelings of being together etc spurs me on to do it again! { I hope I remember that statement the next time I am in the middle of the chaos of preparing for that "next" time!! ;) } Reading your blog after everyone left just topped off the day! Thankyou! Jody

Provision, indeed! What bountiful blessings our Lord bestowed upon your household. I'm thrilled for you and can only imagine the happy faces it brought about! Every dish looks wonderful and I'm sure it was and will be cuz there's leftovers, right? yum. Your pumpking pie is beautiful. Lizzie made ours this year and it was delish. Last time I made one I burned the poor thing. Glad Lizzie took over.

It was just Rocky and I this Thanksgiving. I set the table really pretty and like you, used cute paper napkins. Our family Thanksgiving was last Saturday and we enjoyed rotisserie turkey and some trimmings. For our actual Tday Rocky grilled bratwurst. I made carmelized onions and fried potatoes and heated up green beans. We had some good German sauerkraut in the fridge so brought that out too along with mustard. Simple, do-able and enjoyable. :o)

Thank you for sharing your wonderful tablescape with us. :o)

Brenda, what a beautiful table and beautiful looking food. I imagine it was delicious and and that you had great conversation and hasn't God blessed us so much?Your bowls are a great find. I haven't been to Tuesday Morning in year, but sounds like they have some great stuff. Take care and get some rest after all that. luv, Trish

The table looks absolutely yummy!!!! I am so glad you had a lovely dinner, so beautifully arranged.

The Lord does indeed provide, and the bounty set forth is firm (and delicious) evidence :-)

More on blessed provision: Since my last comment, through conversation a neighbor learned I'd be alone for the holiday and immediately offered me a place at their family's table. Her outreach felt like an extension of a Divine hand. I accepted and had a wonder-full celebration.

How good is our God!

Thank you so much for caring and offering so kind a suggestion. You are an encouragement and a blessing!

I see that we have similar taste in dishes. Love my grandmother's set of Friendly Village that I inherited and I just bought that turkey pattern for my plate stand for autumn. Wow! Sixty cents a bowl...what a bargain. I think I had to pay about $4 for the plate at T.J. Maxx.

I love your dishes, Brenda. Transfer ware is always on my list of things to look for, so I'll keep my eyes out for your pretty patterns too. It seems to be harder these days to find it, but that makes it all the more special when I do.
