Recipes and resting up a bit

I am so tired but we had a lovely time with family this past week. I have Wives & Daughters sitting on the DVD player to pop in just a little later and dinner in the Crock Pot. It may take a few days to recover but it was well worth it, not until Sunday did I feel the fatigue setting in very much. :)

My sisters Bonnie, Jean and I picked up my niece (Terri, who can no longer drive because of advanced MS symptoms) and had a great day on Friday with Jean treating us to breakfast out, Goodwill shopping, and putting flowers on family graves. Well, that wasn't much fun. Except when Terri brought out the decorations for my brother's grave (her Dad).

There were beautiful autumnal silk mums and other flowers but what brought the laughter from the rest of us were the scarecrows on sticks to put in the ground. The boy scarecrow went on her dad's side and the girl was placed next to her step mother's side. My brother was the joke master and prankster of the family so it was so appropriate. It is a good thing there were no other people near us or they may have been offended by all the laughing.

On Saturday I ended up inviting everyone to dinner, including my other brother's widow and her family members who drove in from out of state. Now, I only had about $5.00 to spend but I had food in the freezer and the pantry. Everyone had a great time and loved the food. My sister, Bonnie, brought a zucchini pie (I have got to get that recipe) and I served:
It was nice enough to eat on the deck but when it became a little cloudy, we had to come back inside to warm up a bit. Jean has decided next year she will visit in August, before it dips into the 30's at night. Hehehe...

We were both tired by yesterday evening so she and I propped our feet up and watched Murder She Wrote and then a couple hours of Fox News. After the excitement of the past few days, it was nice to sit and veg out. (She had spent the first part of her vacation at Bonnie's and the weekend with us.)

We were up early this morning so I could drive her to the big hotel near the Interstate in a nearby town. From there she could catch the shuttle that takes people to the City... or to be specific... to the International Airport. My niece, Brandi, will pick her up at the airport and she'll be home in time to see the grandchildren arrive home from school. The marvels of air travel.

Now for the sofa, a throw, a British flick, and rest...

Sounds like a busy but good weekend. I lost a brother many years ago as well and know how tough that is. He is buried in Texas, so sadly I can not visit the grave site often. But he is in my heart, every moment of every day. :)

Loved the picture! Perky purple in a soothing sweet little pot. Very charming. :)

I think I want that sofa, throw, British flick and rest, Brenda! I arrived downtown for my doctor's appt very early this morning to find I was a week too early. What can you do but laugh! I'd really wanted to sleep in today, and could have!

I'm so glad you had a wonderful visit with family, and I enjoyed the scarecrow story.....

It sounds like you had a nice visit with your family.

You mentioned dinner was in the crock pot. I wonder what it is? Curious, I know, but I'm always looking for new inspiration when it comes to crock pot recipes!

I'm new here, but thought I'd let you know you have a beautiful blog.

Many sweet blessings!

Don't know what happened to the comment I was working on...

I wish I was there. I'd bring over my soft, burgundy throw and slippers. I'd brew us a pot of tea and keep your cup filled. I'd bring over some of the apple things I canned this weekend and we'd enjoy W&D together. W&D is in the top five favorite movies ever of mine.

I love the picture! I also love it when family come to visit, although I know it can be exhausting. Glad you had a good time.

Just wanted to let you know that I come to your blog each and every day to read what you have shared from your heart and to listen to your music. There have been days where I find myself worshipping through your music our Lord and Savior Jesus, just bawling as I'm cooking, baking or washing dishes. Your site has been such a great source of strength and blessing to me and now that I have finally started my own blog, I can now write you little notes,,lol.

Hi, Brenda!
I read your blog nearly every day and I'm always uplifted by your positive outlook. Please don't apologize for laughing in the cemetery! I believe that our loved ones are best remembered as we knew them, and that their gifts to us are often expressed in joy!

I'm glad you had a nice time with your family. There is something so precious about spending time with sisters and sisters-in-law and daughters and nieces.

And your evening sounds like a great plan! I just finished up the dinner clean-up, and have the last load of laundry to put away. Then it's veg time for me too!

Blessings on your week.
