An almost perfect day

Rarely do I have what I'd call a perfect day. However, this was one of them. Not that everything was perfect, after all we are all redeemed people living in this house so there is always need for forgiveness. Even Sasha decided this was the day to throw up on carpet again!

However...

The Big Ten football season began today and my team won.

I awoke to cool air and I could wear a pullover sweater for awhile this morning, before the temperatures bumped up against the 80's again for awhile.

I made myself a cup of coffee at home, put it in a "to go" container and let the cool air and hot coffee wake me up.

After dropping Christopher off at work, I drove to the farmer's market where I bought a little bouquet of zinnias, those red fuzzy flowers that dry so great, zukes, yellow squash, a pumpkin, green beans, onions, funny looking eggplant, and blueberry honey from the Honey Man.

The sites
... families with strollers, dogs taking their people for a walk, pumpkins and gourds, fresh vegetables of all varieties, baked goods sold by Mennonite ladies, flowers of all kinds, homemade jams and jellies and "butters"...

The sounds
... friends meeting each other with a surprise greeting, farmers describing the best way to cook a vegetable, strangers chatting about how fast the summer went by, and as background to all... a fife concert.

On the way back to my car, I pressed nose against glass at one of the antique stores and drooled over an English bone china teacup, among other things. Good thing the store wasn't open, yet.

I stopped by the Mission thrift shop for a quick look about, finding three Grace Livingston Hill books in paperback and a hardback in great condition of a favorite by Phillip Yancey that I'd read from the library (
Soul Survivor), and the cutest little apron for fifty cents... looks about Faith's size... all for three dollars and some change.

I made my way through streets familiar from childhood from one town to another and eventually to the county roads... passing tall corn which has turned to gold in the fields, soybeans which are yet to be harvested, two gorgeous horses grazing at the corner of a field... sites and sounds completely different than "in town" but only miles away.

After pulling in to my driveway, I chatted with my neighbor as we both walked down the gravel lane to the county road for our newspapers (delivered in side-by-side rural newspaper boxes, very similar to rural mailboxes). We talked about the first day of football season and how the trees in the forest will soon turn color... and fall all over our lawns. :)

Over all, a perfect start to a day. By this time, hubby had enjoyed sleeping in (after working a third week of long hours at the bookstore) and we were both ready for necessary errands, housework, and other "gotta do's" of the day. But it certainly started out perfect.

It sounds heavenly! Here in GA, we're not even thinking about fall yet. But when it gets here, it will be glorious.
