A couple of thrifty finds

Well, the house is put back together for the most part. However, I must do some work in the yard while the humidity is down. It is suppose to become humid again by tomorrow.

So... I'll work this morning and type away this afternoon. In the meantime, I thought I'd share with you two wonderful thrift finds of late. I truly don't have any extra money (and due to a slight error in the checkbook, we now have a $36.00 overdraft I have to cover this morning). Yikes! Don't you just hate that when you are already very tight? However, some things are so inexpensive that my budget can afford them.

The picture doesn't do this justice, even though I set it on a linen napkin (on a cake stand). I usually don't purchase silver pieces, anymore (even though you can find them at great prices at thrift stores and garage sales). I gave a lot to Goodwill this past Spring when I was getting rid of extra stuff. But this was a gorgeous Oneida piece with the built in serving bowl. No scratches on it. Cost... $2.99... yes, really.

I have needed a lamp for this table for years. I inherited it from my Mom and it is a lovely table but an unusual shape. Last month, I came across this oval vintage lamp at the Goodwill near the community college. You can't see all the details in this picture. The base has a hunter green inlay and the lampshade has the prettiest texture. I put the greenery in the two brass "holders of some type) that are attached to each side. Total cost... $3.99 (well, plus tax).

By the way, if you click on the picture and enlarge it you can see moi' in that lower left picture with the hunter green frame (in my favorite lavender sweater Steph and family brought back from Ireland when Elizabeth was a wee baby). This was our church directory picture a few years back, just before Christopher started growing like the proverbial weed. Now he is almost as tall as his dad.

I'm off to cover a check... sigh... and do some yard work but I will be back... God willing, the creek don't rise, and I can remain calm about that check about how rich the banking system is getting from overdrafts. Sheesh!

Wow!! I wish I could find some good silver finds like that!! (I'm trying hard not to turn green with envy :) ) What a wonderful blessing from the Lord. I've found that having even just a few quality silver serving pieces can really come in handy. You never know when you may host an Open House or need to serve finger foods for a bridal or baby shower, or even make a child feel special and dearly loved on their birthday.

Dear Debra,

You found such pretty things. I totally understand about overdrafts - they are simply
annoying :) (especially is if my fault, he,he)

Have a blessed day!

I don't overdraft often but when I do, I wonder where on earth they think I'm going to get the fees since I didn't have the money in the account to begin with!

Blessings,
karen

Accck, don't even get me started about the banks and their predatory ways. It should be criminal what some of them get away with.

Sweet items at sweet prices. Loved seeing the photo of you.

Hi, Brenda! What a joy to read your blog! I linked over from Jan & Tom's, and am so glad I did!

Your finds are fabulous, and your pantry tips are TOPS, the BEST!

I look forward to checking in often to see what you've found (that silver bowl is divine!)

And don't feel like the lone ranger on the checkbook thing! It happens to all of us from time to time! Just call it a brain cramp and laugh!

Warmest regards, Ronda

Brenda...what beautiful items you found!!! I just love the Silver pieces...I have several myself.

I was collecting silverplate flatware and cleaning and polishing and selling them on eBAY for quite some time. I've taken the summer off from eBAY, with one exception...selling my Dining Room set!!

~Blessings,
Jan

I've thought about asking you to post a picture of yourself, but figured if you wanted to, you would have done it by now. I'm tickled pink to see you after all this time!!!! You look very pretty. I knew you must be, if your kids take after you, and usually kids take after their parents in at least some fashion.
How fun-thanks so much for the picture!
joanna :)
p.s. congrats on your finds, btw!

Those are fantastic finds and great prices! I rarely stop by Goodwill here anymore as the prices have gotten too outrageous. It's amazing how the stores differ all over the country.

Brenda,

Your treasures are lovely and what a great price! I don't know of a Good Will store nearby but I must look. Everyone gets such great buys there!

Have a lovely Friday.

Awesome Brenda..and I have learned that the occasional overdraft does not make us bad stewards and God often covers us when we make those wee errors. {{{{{hugs}}}}}

I can absolutely believe your piece of silver, which is a beautiful one. I see it in the thrift stores and often pass it up, but I did stick a piece in my cart recently. Loved seeing the pics of your home....and you!
