Two excellent magazines

I am so happy summer's grip on us appears to be over. After many days of record highs in the 90s, our high temperature tomorrow may be in the 50s! Brrrr... that will feel cold. My husband and I have a few errands we must run but I'm hoping the last couple days of the week will give me time to do some baking for the freezer.

I'm planning a couple recipes from Paula Deen's Holiday Baking magazine I purchased last week. I was hesitant at first because it is a little pricey (not too bad compared to some other special magazines) but once I saw the recipe for strawberry cake, I knew it was coming home with me.

Next month Christopher turns eighteen and strawberry is his favorite cake. This one is typical "Paula" because it looks fairly easy and fattening. :) I think he'll love it. Once I had a chance to skim through the entire magazine at home, I knew it was going to be a favorite. If you like to bake, I think you'll love this magazine (I've never had a "Paula" recipe that didn't turn out).

There is an excellent article with recipes about a Christmas Cookie Swap her best friend gives every year. I've also decided to try many of the food gift ideas. It is one of the only food magazines I've seen that has recipes and pictures of "bake in the jar" quick breads as well as cookie mixes layered in jars. I love it when pictures are given!

The other magazine I brought home with me is one I'd read about on a blog. I'd seen it at the bookstore but after reading about it on the blog (I can't remember which one!), I decided to take a closer look. It is called Homegrown Hospitality and the Premier Issue is on magazine racks right now.

It is a special magazine put out by Paper Crafts and it is loaded with creative ideas for making and giving gifts. This magazine is much more difficult to explain in words but I'm hoping I'll inspire you to look through it if you see it at the store (probably located in the scrapbooking or other "hobby inspired" magazines). I already have many ideas that I want to try soon.

The cooler weather (and thinking ahead for the Holidays) always gets me inspired to cook and craft! :)

I also appreciate the mag referrals. In fact, I've recently ordered a trial copy of Victoria Mag. because I remembered you talking about it here once.

Is there anything better than retiring to one's sofa with a cup of tea, a cozy blanket, and a good magazine? I'll be looking for both of these recommendations. Thanks!

Brenda ~ Thank you for the Hospitality mag recommendation - have never heard of that one before. I did purchase the Paula Dean book a while back and haven't had a chance to even thumb thru it yet--but am looking forward to it!
