A truly lovely day

Both of the guys were gone most of Friday. Which wasn't what made it a lovely day. :)

However, it was peaceful and quiet...and with them not in the house, I could open windows (which I can't part of the year when they are home due to allergies).

The temperatures felt like early Autumn rather than July. The birds were singing their thanks for the gorgeous weather and the curtains were breathing in and out with the breezes...lovely.

I finished the necessary housework early so I could take advantage of being alone. I slipped a British DVD I'd brought home from the library into the machine. After about fifteen minutes, I knew I didn't like it but I gave it a little more time. I don't remember the title but it was a TV program that starred one of my favorite British actresses. Yuk...it was gross. Although the scenery was gorgeous, they were using the effe word and the storylines were profane.

Out came the British DVD and in went an old and trusted American Sci-Fi TV show. I sat on the floor, cutting magazine pages to have ready for my own Jewel-like journal. I have put together something similar for years by pasting pictures of scenery, houses, decorations, etc. in a scrapbook ...along with some favorite poetry and such ...but she takes it to another level by making it part of day-to-day living. What a wonderful idea...

I love learning new ways to express creativity and I can't wait to put one together like that. What is funny (it shouldn't be as I already know we think a lot alike) is how many of the same pictures she has in her photographed journals that I already had in my file...same magazines!

I felt like I was in Kindergarten again. My scissors were creating magic (good magic...Narnia magic) as I cut out pictures and words. After a couple of hours, I took a break and realized I had made such a mess. Such is life when we are creating.

The guys were due home in late afternoon and I had already started a loaf of bread in the bread machine. By the time they arrived home, the aromas of baked bread and goulash were waiting as they came through the door. I knew both would have had demanding schedules and I wanted home to look and smell like a sanctuary.

I would later finish cutting out the pages I had ready, while watching a Chicago White Sox baseball game. Once again...it is that sound of baseball I love and not necessarily the sights. (Thankfully this year, not the win/lose record, either.) It was also nice sitting in the same room as my husband in the evening for a change. I am normally reading in the living room, which I did much later after finishing my scissor work and another clean up.

I finished the second Time book last night and began a few pages of A Swiftly Tilting Planet while waiting for Christopher to arrive home from an evening with friends. I know I pray over him as he is out...but I still wait up most of the time. :)

As for today...a little more housework and then I'm going to go through another stack of magazines that I found free at the library. I'll just cut out pages with interesting pictures or words and then set them aside for further attention later.

My son had to teach his fencing class on Thursday afternoon. I offered to drive him in town so I could check the library near campus for a DVD to watch this weekend (they have a great selection of British favorites). I was quite happy to find The Good Neighbors, one of my all time favorite TV shows in any genre.

So...that is what is awaiting me when the day's work is done. I'll watch The Good Neighbors, cut out magazine pages, and later escape to a great book. :)

Jewel has inspired me as well... but I fear that I will not go through with this. It is just so darn beautiful though. Please do share your's with us when done.

I find that British TV is hit or miss.

The *very* thing I too love about the journaling--that it's like being in kindergarten again! I loved hearing about your day. I actually popped over, because I was really unusually tired--I guess from our whirlwind-wonder-trip, yesterday (so tired I felt like I was going to cry for no reason--almost like you can feel if you've done too much just after you've had a precious new baby :o), and was curled up trying to take a nap--to no avail, because I had had a cup of tea earlier, and thought, **I know, I'll go and visit Brenda** :o) What a blessing you are to me, dear sweet friend. God led me right on over--and met me here. Also, wanted to tell you, that I loved all the beautiful photos of your cosy home. I have to say, I know the blog is your book in progress, but, I personally am really looking forward to reading your full blown autobiography, when you get it finished up--you do have a good start on it going, right?? Well, let's say, if you don't (but you do, right??) you could send me do-able installments and I could tuck them away in a special folder of safekeeping for you (and give you thumbs up and atta boys--feedback and all, along the way :o).....How about you begin with your great grandparents??? Okay, I'll be waiting---same email address regardless of if and where I move ;o)Thanks for being there.
Lovingly, Jewels headed off to try and sleep a bit, again, while Big Papa has the treasures happily occupied with all manner of fun, outside.

Oh I love the Good Neighbors! I bought the whole series a few years ago. I think it's interesting how it's still funny today. Good, funny humor not raunchy humor. Have you seen Rosemary & Thyme with Felicity Kendall? It was good, but I didn't like her as much in that as in GN.

Glad you had a lovely day!

Hello!
I saw your blog on eyes of wonder and have enjoyed it in the last week or so (I am a big fan of tea). My sisters and I started on the journals too and we had the most fun we've had in ages. We made a HUGE mess too -- scraps everywhere! My kids (6 and 4) were making them as well and we ended up leaving the mess up and working on it for a week! Isn't it fun!?
