The Midwest is baking...and other sad stories

It is hot where I live..."stinkin' hot"... Not exactly a feminine expression but one I use when my misery level has surpassed uncomfortable. I ended up only getting out to take my son to and from his job today. I was going to check out the $2.00 a bag sale at the library but my air conditioned home sounded better than a book bargain...that is how hot it is here. Other than making my way out to the deck to water the container garden and walking down the gravel lane to pick up the mail...I stayed inside where it felt like February.

My foot continues to be swollen so my usual Monday gotta do's were set aside. Instead of laundry and vacuuming, cleaning mirrors and dusting chairs...I polished silver. I'd noticed last week that my silver tea service was showing a bit of tarnish, as was the beautiful silver tray (rectangular with interesting "feet" to set it up off the table a bit) that holds my perfume and creams in my bedroom. (Excellent thrift store and antique mall finds.) So they all made their way to my dining room table, along with smaller serving pieces, where they were individually polished to perfection (love that MAAS polish) as I kept my foot propped and watched cooking & decorating shows.

Yesterday afternoon I sorted through the Victoria magazines I'd purchased for a quarter at the library sale. Although I didn't have a lot of the magazines here already (having had to get rid of all of mine when we moved in 2001 but blessed with finding a few on my own as well as a wonderful gift from a dear friend of her duplicates), I had enough to be quite happy that I had only two duplicates in the purchase. I have...plans...for those later. Shhhh...they will be included in a give-away planned at the end of July or early August in anticipation of the new Victoria. :)

Anyhoo, it was interesting looking through the magazines because they were from late 1990's to early 2000's. Which, of course, Victoria fans will know as "the demise" of the magazine when the new editor took over. I had stopped reading it by then so I was a little curious what that last year looked like. I found a few good articles but it was soooo changed that it looked nothing like the magazine I knew and loved. As I've said before, the new editor and staff just didn't "get it". Sigh... I believe the new publishers will do a wonderful job as I already love Tea Time and Southern Lady.

So...other than finishing the dishes which are soaking in very hot, sudsy water...I will continue to be a lady of leisure and let this foot rest. Instead of my usual cup of tea, though, I'm going straight for a cold Diet Cola. :)

Its been pretty hot and miserable here too. I have never seen a Victoria Magazine before. In fact, I hadn't even heard of them until a few weeks ago. I'm such a Philistine.

Hope your foot is better soon.

Yes, Brenda, hope your foot is better. Somehow I missed what happened and just went perusing thru your page of posts in case I somehow skipped over the reason. Never could find it, oh well, I hope the swelling goes down and you're back to normal soon.

It is strange to think of you sweltering while we sit cosily by the fire!

Oh, I do hope you are feeling better, foot-wise, quite soon. You are being so producting, though, even with your foot up!

We were "stinkin' hot" last week, well over 100 for several days, but this week is just plain old hot in the 90's!

As I am certain you know. You best take care of yourself. Keep you foot up so the swelling goes down.

Sorry about the previous comment. I didn't realize that ME of http://thosenorthernskies.blogspot.com/ was signed on. I thought I was leaving the comment about taking care of your foot.

That's fine! It is a good thing I don't have to check before getting on my blog as there are three people who use this computer off and on!

I can sympathize with being a "home hermit" in heat. Lately we have been hot even for the desert of Las Vegas...117 one day last week and with the sun shining it ends up being another 10 degrees hotter. Thank goodness for AC and ICED tea! Hope your weather cools done and your foot is doing better soon.

Hello Brenda,

I found your beautiful blog through Catherine at Xanga...I also love Victoria magazine. I have the last couple years' issues and have inherited my mother's earlier issues and treasure them! I signed up for a new subscription when the magazine comes back and hope the new editors are true to the old Victoria. Praying for your foot to heal soon! Blessings, Jenn
