An early 4th of July hello

I have a very special birthday greeting to post tomorrow (the 4th) so I thought I'd send everyone else a happy 4th of July today. I adore this holiday! For all the problems with our country recently, I still think it is a miracle of Democracy. Okay, it is really a Republic but very few people know that... :)

I love to read about the founding of America, the American Revolution, our Founding Fathers, etc.
I think the reason I appreciate the 4th the most, though, is because it is the celebration of dreams come true.

When you think of all the families from various countries who came here to begin a new life, it is truly astounding that we are the
United States of America.

I spent the entire day running errands in hot weather and I am
so ready to lay down on the sofa with my feet propped up! Said feet are telling me they do not appreciate such busy days. Like many diabetics, I have feet that like to complain.

Since Christopher will probably be going to a
4th of July party in another town (with another homeschool family), I have planned a very simple cookout here. The only work I'll have to do is grill the hamburgers (and chicken to use in salads later), put together slaw, and boil some corn on the cob. I'm even having ice cream for dessert to make it simpler.

Both my husband and I have decided we want to have an easy 4th, staying inside where it is nice and cool and spend some time reading. Sounds lovely...

God Bless America

"While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,

As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer. "

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her

Thru the night with a light from above.

From the mountains, to the prairies,

To the oceans, white with foam

God bless America,
My home sweet home.

We, too, will be having a simple, stay home 4th- the forecast is for 106 tomorrow :(
Since you enjoy stories of our country's history, I would recommend "American Courage" by Herbert W Warden III; it is a wonderful collection of true stories of American bravery.
Do you know, you are the first person I've ever met who has read "Miss Read's" books! I just love the gentle, sweet flavour of them.

I'm with you two-tomorrow is supposed to hit 110 so I am *definitely* (!!) staying inside. I'm having adrenal fatigue symptoms lately, so I'll be taking it very easy. Hubby and boys will be making pancakes for dinner. Too hot to barbeque, even in the shade.

I sympathize. I'm already growing weary of summer's hot weather and it's only just begun. I'm ready for the fall :)

Happy 4th! May you enjoy it with your loved ones.

Hi Brenda - I hope you had a lovely relaxing Independence Day at you home - I hope you got the storm we did and the cooler weather that seems to have accompanied it! We are actually seeing an increase in humidity though, so it will be an A/C day tomorrow. My hubby was liking those $25 /month electric bills but I think they will be going up!

Do take care of yourself and try to get your feet in some nice cool water - it helps to cool the whole body down I find!

Glad you planned on a quiet 4th of July. It was here also, as it rained. But son would not be deterred from cooking out on the grill! Dad brought over a big umbrella and they did it! :-)

Then we came home and watched the 4th of July celebrations, on tv. Only way to see them, in the rain.

And yes it is a Republic and not a
Democracy and happy we should all be, for this. Democracy sounds neat but... Socrates was forced to commit suicide by the Athenian DEMOCRACY.
