Our computer was hit with a virus on Monday. We thought it would be down for weeks but our son and his friend were able to get us up and running. Thankfully, it only hit our computer because our son's computer has virus protection that shut off the network as soon as it detected the virus on ours.
It was able to get in because we had not resubscribed to our Norton, waiting until next month when it fits the budget better. Because this virus was so new, our Norton could detect it but without doing an immediate update, could not get rid of it. It hits so quickly and stops you from being able to get back online, you may not be protected if you haven't done an update recently...so make certain your virus protection is up to the minute. It supposedly came in through our e-mails but we can't figure out which one it was. We don't open suspicious e-mails.
Fortunately, this was not a virus that wipes out the hard drive (we've had that happen twice, which is why we had the best virus protector on our computer). I guess something like this has to happen again to remind us virus protection on computers is a financial priority! This one does get into your computer and makes available to the hacker everything you have on your computer. We did call our bank and switch the password on our Internet Banking.
Good to be back online.

Ugh! Thanks for the reminder--I have not updated lately.
So glad you got it all cleaned up and are back with us:)
I'm so glad you get back on line quickly.
May I please step on my 'soap box,' for a minute?
When I see such problems {Virus}, I just sort of _have_ to say that all the Virus worries, was the main reason we switched to a Mac, when it was time to change. I love it and have never regretted the switch.
Just a thought..... For if/when people's Pc really *dies.*
'MN'
I love Macs and will most likely go back to one someday...if I ever get a computer that is just MINE. :)
