We did get out to vote today after going to the BMV yesterday to make sure both of our driver's license have the proper address. Don't laugh, I'm sure you have procastinated about something, too. There was a friend of mine from the Friends of the Library checking photo IDs and I mentioned to her about the last minute change of address. She asked if we'd recently moved to this part of the county. Well, if you count the last week in December as recent...
It has been quite chilly here and we awoke to rain. Because of the elections, our homeschool co-op did not meet today (instead we had two co-ops in a row last week) so we could all sleep in. It was a good day to sleep in, a day when it was dark and chilly.
We had promised our son we would take him out to breakfast this morning, a celebration for getting his driver's license. It's usually impossible to find a free morning so we took advantage of this one to have a family celebration before dropping our son off at home and then going to a local school to cast our ballot.
I usually vote all Republican (hey, I'm an evangelical, pro-life, kind of person) but I am so annoyed with our state leadership that I did not cast an all Republican vote (thus, having to look closer at the ballot than usual) for the first time since...since...I can't remember. My husband and I had found a Democrat we felt we could trust and voted for him in a top state position. We are all for checks and balances in government. So were our forefathers as they well understood the possible greed and depravity of man.
My husband and I both used to be involved in making changes through politics. I still believe we are to be salt and light in the world. I believe Christians are to affect politics, business, education, the arts, etc. If I didn't, I'd have to turn in my Francis Schaeffer fan club card. However, after years of getting "our man" elected and being disappointed in results, I realize most change will happen only when hearts are changed. There is only one Person who can change hearts. In the meantime, I continue to vote for the best human I can find.
