I can't get my brain out of the fog this evening much less get focused on one area to think about for more than 30 seconds.
Perhaps it is the weather with heavy rain changing to snow tomorrow. Perhaps it is another financial crisis or just life's usual challenges but today was a bummer.
My son's allergy shots were upgraded to the next level on Monday and he still hasn't recovered completely. So...although he's been driving himself to the junior college on Wednesdays, I had to take him today. We needed to be there an hour early so he could use their Broadband to finish his online homework and he had to stay an hour later than usual to work on Friday's homework. (We still do not have Broadband because we live surrounded by trees.) I ended up having to set the alarm long before the sun came up to get ready to leave and did not arrive home until early afternoon. A challenge when one's high energy level is in the morning.
I spent the first hour sipping coffee and eating a yogurt parfait at McDonald's while reading the latest issue of a family life magazine. From there I went to the library on the campus, along with my spiral notebook and what appears to be the first of the hardback Gooseberry Christmas cookbooks. I developed writer's cramp scribbling wonderful Holiday recipes into my notebook but I came away with many appetizing possibilities at no cost.
I also came away with four...count them...FOUR...oversized decorating books. I can't help it, I see them on the shelf and they jump out at me. At least the habit is free and except the occasional sore back from carrying them home, it is harmless. After all, these are the textbooks of my chosen profession....homemaking. Three are new to me and are about English Country decorating and the fourth is a reread of a favorite, Shabby Chic!
It's quiet here, for a few minutes. Until the sounds of a college women's basketball game come from the general area of our bedroom radio. My son is "in town" at a fencing class. He called to let me know he'd arrived safely in spite of heavy rains. (I hadn't asked him to call but I was very thankful he did.) I am going to brew a pot of tea and then peruse the decorating books until Jericho comes on, the only show I tune in faithfully each week. The premise of nuclear terrorism and the aftermath is chilling but it makes for interesting TV.
So...I have nothing witty or deep to say today, if I ever do for that matter. :) Today has been my one-day version of "What I did on my Summer vacation" but it could be called "One day in the life of Brenda, who has a sinus headache and a fuzzy brain". That will work...

Brenda - sorry you've had a bummer of a day! It's been low around our home too - ostly due to lack of sleep - a wee boy awakening in the wee hours with growing pains. He screams out and than is really hard to console because he is half asleep and hurting and not able to think clearly! I can relate! I pray that the bumps of life that are causing you stress will do their work on your character that the Master Potter has deemed necessary and then smooth out to form a graceful curve in the masterpiece He is making in you.
I'd never thought to check the library for Gooseberry Patch books - now that's an idea! I'm going to our online library now and check that out. Hope you're feeling better today and enjoying a delightful snowy day. :)
I found a lot of the Gooseberry books at our county library.
I like to own my bigger cookbooks that are reference "go to" books but those having a collection of recipes are easy to copy to a notebook. I keep both notebooks (this is my second) on the same shelf as my cookbooks unless it is going with me to the library.
Gooseberry books have the best recipes.
