I just won a contest on another blog and it was so much fun, I thought I'd offer one here.Although...I hope there are still people reading this blog. I did not download a site counter after moving over to Beta and there are very few comments, anymore. So I risk not having anyone interested! Even so, I want to have this contest because I enjoyed being part of one.
I have a few items in my "gift box" that I keep for unexpected gift giving. Last year, I was able to purchase an extra copy of one of my all time favorite (and gorgeous) cookbooks called A Return to Sunday Dinner and it remains in the gift box, ready to be given away.
It is a coffee table size cookbook with beautiful pictures, written from a Christian perspective. The author was executive chef at the Blair House in Washington, D.C., where he cooked for the foreign dignitaries who came to stay there. However, he's also a Christian husband and father who appreciates what Sunday Dinner is all about. It's a lovely book!
If you are interested, just leave a comment telling us what you are thankful for this past year. On the day after Thanksgiving (Friday), I'll copy all names (including anonymous) on paper and I'll have one of the menfolk who live with me close their eyes and pick out the winner.

Oh yes, there are still people reading this blog, my Dear. And 'this people' {-smile-} has been trying to read back, through _all_ of it.
Well, I haven't fully accomplished reading _all_ of it yet but.. I just this past minute, zipped back to your first entry. And... You can't know how pleased I was to find that... the illustration you used, in your very first entry, is a picture I've had in my kitchen, for years and years and years. I just love it!
It's called "Fairy Tale" by Walter Firle. I just may do an entry of my own, on it. :-) Tomorrow... tomorrow... It's late now.

What you are thankful for this past year...
1. My husband's wonderful new job. It suits his talents and personality perfectly. It is amazing how God knows every detail of my dear husband's soul and how this new job truly was tailor made for him. After a 2 year struggle to find suitable employment, this has been such a relief and blessing to our family.
2. My precious children. I am so grateful for chubby hand hugs, pudgy cheek kisses, silly delighted giggles and tiny toes running around my house. The joy they bring to each day is overwhelming and overflowing.
3. God working on my heart to help me be a more loving, joyful, peaceful, supportive, feminine, gentle, kind, patient and industrious wife and mother. I have far to go, but I am so grateful that He has shown me the better way. All of the wonderful Christian ladies' blogs have been so instrumental in my 're-education' and growth.

Though this has been a fairly trying week, as I sit here thinking about all I have to be thankful for, I am completely overwhelmed.
God's faithfulness and mercy come to mind right away - that He desires to have a relationship with me is a daily wonder.
I am thankful for our family, my dear husband has work he loves and he is such a sweet and gentle man who guides our family to know God better. Our children are blessings beyond compare, and our home is more comforting and lovely than I ever dreamed of. I cannot help but be thankful every time I open my bulging pantry, both for the food we have for our family and for the ability to give to others in need.
The beauty all around me makes my heart sing, the music of worship delights my soul, and the joy of friendship warms me. I am even learning to be thankful for liver problems, because it is teaching me that while I have no strength of my own, God is my strength, my refuge, my provider.
This is the 30th Thankgiving my husband and I have celebrated - we were married on Canadian Thanksgiving in October, 15 years ago. We have so much to be thankful for we decided right away that no matter what country we lived in we would always celebrate both Thanksgivings, and we have!

Your blog is one of my favorites so while I check it everyday, I don't always leave a comment.
The thing I am most thankful for this past year is my Bible study group. It is called "Homespun" and I began attending in January. What is unique about it is that it's for homeschool moms so there is a program for the children from birth through high school. I'm sure each one of us can think of Bible studies we've heard of that we would have liked to attend but couldn't because there was nothing to do with our children.
This has made a tremendous impact on my family as we have all been home bound for over 5 years due to my recovery from chronic fatigue so we were all starving for friends-we have had none all these years. The women were so welcoming that I felt loved right away, which I desperately needed, and now I can say I have friends I can call up to meet for tea or to invite myself over to their home for an afternoon. My children have friends and have been invited to birthday parties and "play dates." This group has been such a blessing and has been the best part of this past year for me and my family.

I am thankful for the love that has grown up between our adopted son and us. Oh we loved him before we met him and loved him from when we first saw him standing uncertainly in his foster mum's living room, and we loved him for the first six months of life together. We didn't think we could love him more. But the Lord has blessed us and given us a love that is so deep and perfect and grows every day. I am so thankful for that and for the almost three year old who is right now singing Amazing Grace to his teddies :o)

I am thankful for the dear friends I've made this year because of my blog. I believe friendships of women are important --- and the role of blogging in expanding these friendships has been significant. I'm also thankful for a lovely family --- two sons who are doing well in their college studies (a special blessing for me, as I was their homeschool teacher K - 12 and always wondered if I was doing 'enough'). There is too much to be thankful for, I could go on and on. Off the top of my head...I am thankful that I am able to stay at home and teach my children to glorify God and enjoy Him forever!
This year I am most thankful to God for allowing us to celebrate another Thanksgiving with our youngest daughter, Rebekah. She has Down Syndrome and developed leukemia three years ago and, thankfully, has been in remission ever since. Each time I think of how this Thanksgiving COULD have been, I thank God that He has blessed us with her presence. I am thankful for ALL our children and other loved ones, realizing that we are not promised tomorrow.
I just found your blog a few weeks ago and have been blessed. I read every day and enjoy and am challanged by your words.As an over 50 it is great to find an older women online. Not to say you are old just know you have grandchildren and most have toddlers. I learn from them also but there is a difference in seasons.
I am thankful for my family all being together for thanksgiving and the internet which keeps me encouraged and in touch with my 7 children who are all away from me.

It seems that sometimes there's a shortage of "older" women (older being relative, of course) to teach the younger from their experience and life. However, I did not say what I am thankful for this year. Please just look overlook me. Afterall it is a holiday and so much has been going on.
My husband had an aorta abdominal aneurysm a year ago. His father had died with the same thing while in the hospital being treated for gallstones 34 years ago.
My husband was having back problems and had an mri which revealed the aneurysm. He had surgery and it was repaired. Two weeks later his brother had the same surgery. It is inherited. We are so thankful to our gracious Lord that we have "Pop" with us.
