Books in the basket

Quite awhile ago, two books were recommended to me that I finally found in the library this last week. They are Home Cooking and More Home Cooking by Laurie Colwin. I am a little over half way through with Home Cooking and I see why so many people have recommended it. Mrs. Colwin was a novelist who also wrote a column for Gourmet magazine. I found myself laughing out loud at some of her experiences in the kitchen. I haven't read the sequel but I'm looking forward to it very much.

These books make good "light reading" and since each chapter is an individual story, it is a book easy to pick up and read when you have a few minutes. It's not from a Christian perspective (she was Jewish) but so far I haven't found anything I would consider offensive (don't throw anything at me if there is something that I haven't read, yet!). Highly recommended!

If you'll notice, since I switched to beta blogger, I now have a "What I'm Reading" sidebar which I'll change from time to time. I plan to put together a list of books I plan to read for the new year later. The two decorating books are gorgeous!

I started reading A Christmas Carol this week, figuring since I'm teaching from it starting today that it would be wise to finally read it. I'll write a review of it soon but all I can says is...why did I wait so long to read this amazing book?

I also started reading a mystery book by an author I'd seen recommended elsewhere. I read about three chapters and then skipped to the end to see "whodunit". So why did I get annoyed with this book? The main character was constantly whining about something. I wanted to tell her to "get a grip on it, make better choices in life or stop whining". Hehehe... I'll try another book by the same author to see if I like it better as her writing was quite good.

This month I'm going to TRY and read my new book, "The Mayflower." In December, I'd like to read "A Christmas Carol" which I've never read before.
Next year my goal is to read as many of L.M. Montgomery's books as I can, beginning with the Anne books, of course. :)

That book sounds very interesting (The Mayflower). I will have to check into it.

The language in A Christmas Carol is so lovely, even my middle school students could appreciate the great writing.

My daugher posted a few weeks ago that she has been rereading the Anne books.
