Bits & Pieces

It was cold when I finally made my way out of bed this morning. I love cold weather. My son loves cold weather. We are both warm blooded people. My husband, however, is the cold blooded one of the family (he always says this makes him sound terrible). He has been known to sleep in flannel and a stocking cap on a cool July evening! This morning, as he complained about the cold, I shared with him Amy's post about living in Florida and the only time she has been around snow.

"My blood is thinner than a supermodel on a carrot diet,
which is a good excuse not to donate blood. Nobody would want it."

He finally found someone who understands him.

I often spend my before-bed-hour reading my favorite blogs. It's much more comforting than most of the TV shows available at that hour. Most of the blogs I read are listed in my links section. There were a couple I especially enjoyed recently. I love the photography that greets me at The Pleasant View Schoolhouse. It is often the best of simplicity itself. I have noticed a rise in my blood sugars after visiting Rose Cottage on Turtle Lane this week. I have got to try that bundt cake recipe...yum. I made her Donut Muffins again yesterday, they are perfect for this time of year and I make them with whole wheat so I can pretend they are health food.

So many of you found me through The Sparrows Nest so I expect you've been keeping up with the Autumn crafts and decorating ideas. Hmmm...I don't have stairs in my home but I can find something to stencil. I plan to purchase Mrs. Wilt's e-books once I get a working printer again. I've gone through two in the last two years so I may have to "bite the bullet" and upgrade to a better model next purchase.

My husband took over chauffeuring duties today so I could have some household maintenance time. Okay, forget maintenance, I have dust bunnies making open appearances in my kitchen and dining area. He mentioned a few times yesterday that we needed bread baked. (I have ground my own wheat and made bread long before it became popular due to his allergies.) So I gladly handed over the driving task to spend time in my home. Should I tell him I was thrilled to spend time at home cooking, cleaning and baking?

I started a loaf of bread in the bread machine before I swept, dusted and vacuumed. With only three of us in the house, I don't need to make bread in the mixer. I lit the tart warmer by my sink and washed all the breakfast dishes and any Tupperware in the refrigerator whose contents were past their prime. By the time the guys arrived home, the house looked beautiful, smelled great and there was a loaf of bread rising on the kitchen counter. It was definitely a good morning.

i was heartened to hear that you have dust bunny pets at your house too! lol. i would love to get carpeting here, because no matter how much i sweep, the floors are constantly grainy. i need a roomba, lol.

blogging is definitely a more wholesome way to spend an evening, i agree fully.

I have two rooms with carpeting and everything else is either tile or wooden floors. I just can't believe how quickly we can get big dust bunnies. They remind me of tumbleweeds in the old Westerns.

I'm sure having two cats (who think they own the house)doesn't help the dust.

The best gift my dh could give me? Taking the five kids someplace for several hours so I could have time alone at home-LOVE it!!!! Cleaning, cooking, baking...it doesn't matter. I just love doing anything alone, lol.
Sometimes I spend it reading but often I do laundry, clean the kitchen, etc.
And dust bunnies? I've always lived in homes with all carpet so I really didn't know what they were until we moved to this house. OH MY!!!!!!
Last year we were able to take out our dingy, stained off-white carpet (including in the dining room-this was NOT ever pretty with five young children eating three or more meals a day in the room-what WERE the builders thinking??!!) and replace it with tile. This included the entry way, kitchen, dining area, and hallway. That only left carpet in the living room and bedrooms. I loved it. I still love it....but oh, how the bunnies love to multiply around here!! Dusting more than once a day would NOT hurt the place!! lol....(but it's really not funny)....
