Indeed, I am determining to slow down a bit for refreshment and restoration this summer. Thank you for this reminder to seek for beauty . . . which is all a reflection of the true beauty of our loving Lord! I have recently come through a storm and can't help but feel an uneasy sense of "What is next, Lord?" In spite of the fact that He was with me throughout and sent many sisters in Christ to encourage and comfort, I'm almost afraid of the calm we're experiencing now ...
I recently read The Good and Beautiful God by James Bryan Smith, and was so encouraged by his book, which speaks to this very thing! One illustration that stood out was the following:

"A lecturer to a group of businessmen displayed a sheet of white paper in which was one blot. He asked what they saw. All answered, 'a blot'. The test was unfair; it invited the wrong answer. Nevertheless, there is an ingratitude in human nature by which we notice the black disfigurement and forget the widespread mercy. We need to deliberately call to mind the joys of our journey..."

I feel that you are encouraging your readers to do that very thing - play down the blot and notice all the white that surrounds it - all the beauty of creation and blessings of God in each day (Ann Voskamp's One Thousand Gifts comes to mind as well as its theme is along the same lines). Thank you for your uplifting words! I am so glad you are continuing to blog, despite your eye difficulties.
-Joy

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32960314.post-28869372405734638032019-06-18T16:11:14.326-04:002019-06-18T16:11:14.326-04:00What you’re sharing is exactly what Elijah went th...What you’re sharing is exactly what Elijah went through! I haven’t quite mastered “Counting it all joy” as it says in James 1:2-4! But looking for the beauty around me and anything to be thankful for, really helps! Thanks for sharing! Those things [in addition to Faith] may differ slightly from one to another, but while the scent of a garden, favorite music, the cat in my lap, may not alter immediate circumstances, they are reminders of goodness and stability.Morning's Minionhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01912356455981434029noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32960314.post-90072576449514441692019-06-16T18:59:48.785-04:002019-06-16T18:59:48.785-04:00True Brenda...and for me, part of the beauty that ...True Brenda...and for me, part of the beauty that helps the most, aside from the Psalms is in music...REAL music that is!! And so much of that is at our fingertips via youtube, etc. We happen to currently live in one of the most beautiful spots in this country. And I can tell you, it DOES help!! We are in trial yet again...hubby has been found to have hydrocephalus. Though he collapsed and had to go to the emergency room the end of April...we are STILL waiting to see the specialist. And we live in the capitol city of this state. God figure. The appt will be in a few days finally. And people think we plan out our lives? REALLY?? Not often, for us at least. Hope you feel renewed and doing better soon too...we so often just have to "tie a knot and hang on" as my mother so often told me.Elizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07529409389057290042noreply@blogger.com
