Book Love

"... said Grandfather.  "In my experience when people once begin to read they go on.  They begin because they think they ought to and they go on because they must.  Yes.  They find it widens life.  We're all greedy for life, you know, and our short span of existence can't give us all that we hunger for, the time is too short and our capacity not large enough.  But in books we experience all life vicariously."

A City of Bells by Elizabeth Goudge

  4. When I'm reading a book I just can't put down I actually feel like I've climbed inside the book and am living the story!

  5. What a lovely quote! And picture!

I've a new book to begin, but only a brief time to do so while my visiting grandchildren are napping and their parents are at the thrift store! I feel so blessed today! The weather is perfect and my favorite people are visiting! And a new book, too!

  6. I agree with Anita -- when I'm reading a story I become part of it and it's better than "calgon" for "taking me away".

  8. That quote perfectly describes us readers. When I am in the mood for Venice I read Donna Leon; for Sicily Andrea Camilleri; for Botswana Alexander McCall Smith. Book travel that is quick and inexpensive.
